The Electoral Commission of Ghana has been advised to work on its integrity rather than expanding on a redesign of its logo.

The Commission last week unveiled a new logo to some media practitioners at a workshop, announcing a launch of it soon.

The logo has, however, not received favorable reviews with many asking the Commission to maintain its existing logo.

A former Chief Director at the Commission, Kwame Damoah Agyemang, told TV3 over the weekend that the election organising body of the country should not think twice about withdrawing the new logo.

“They should remove that idea completely from the system,” Mr. Damoah Agyemang advised, “and rather have on the existing symbol that signifies the Commission that they are going to work to improve their integrity and the fairness in election conduct and the transparency that we want to associate with every election.”

The EC has been accused in many quarters of plagiarizing the logo, one said to be similar to that of a Turkish educational and career counseling unit.

“What is the meaning of the new logo that they have brought? What does it signify? Does it convey any message to you? At least with the old logo, when you see without even seeing the Electoral Commission written under it, you will see a ballot box with somebody slotting in something.

“Aside of that, it is written integrity fairness and transparency that will convey a message to you that the Commission has a mission to achieve.”

Meanwhile, a Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Amadu Sulley, has debunked suggestions that the EC has approved of the logo.

Dr. Sulley says the EC was rather considering it and may not adopt it, after all.
