Work to commence on a female ward at Bibiani hospital

Bibiani (W/R), Oct 31, GNA- Nana Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, Omanhene of Sefwi-Anhwiaso and Mr Yaw Boadi, General Manager of AngloGold Bibiani Limited have jointly cut the sod to commence the construction of 100,000- dollar female ward for the Bibiani Government Hospital. The construction of the ward is part of the Social Responsibility Agreement (SRA) of AngloGold Limited with the community. Speaking at the ceremony at Bibiani, Nana Gyebi thanked the company

for the provision of the ward and also for providing a clinic and a school block for the Bibiani community and its environs. He praised the health staff at Bibiani hospital for working under difficult conditions. Nana Gyebi used the occasion to advise parents to send their girl child to school to enable them to train as nurses to serve their communities. Mr Boadi also commended the chiefs and people at the company's operational areas for their co-operation, love and understanding, which had ensured cordial working atmosphere. Mr Kingsley Adjei-Manu, Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Chief Executive, said it was pathetic to see pregnant women and sick female patients being denied proper health care due to lack of ward facility. The DCE urged the contractor working on the project to speed up for early completion. Mr Adjei-Manu appealed to the company to help provide a theatre and

an accident centre at the hospital for surgical and other emergency cases. Mr Abass Yukabir, Administrator of the hospital, appealed to the Omanhene to release lands to enable AngloGold and the District Assembly to provide residential accommodation for the health workers. In another development, the assembly, in conjunction with Zoomlion Company has employed 25 workers to improve the sanitation in the Bibiani Township and some market towns in the district.
