Apam, July 20, GNA - Workers at Apam in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region have threatened to go on mass transfer if security of their property cannot be assured. Mr. Stephen Agyei Yeboah, Chairman of the District Council of Labour, told the GNA at Apam that they had decided on that action due to the constant harassment by thieves who raid their homes when they are at work.
He said for the past two months workers in Apam had known no peace as by the time they returned from work, the belongings of one or two of them had been looted by thieves. Mr. Agyei-Yeboah said though reports had been made to the police, no arrest had been made and the crime continued unabated. He said two weeks ago a lady had her suitcase full of clothing, a television set, deck, home theatre, electric iron and micro wave looted whilst she was at work and another lady had a pan full of soup and a gas cylinder stolen.
Last week Mr. Agyei Yeboah said another worker returned from work to realize that the only attire he wore to work was the only property he had left as all others including television set, deck, home theatre and others had been stolen. "If thieves will not give us peace to work at Apam, we must all leave and go and work at places where our services will be needed," Mr. Agyei-Yeboah said.
