Civil servants with the Ejisu/Juaben Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region cannot be trusted in discharging their duties fairly, a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) there, Hon. Yaw Afrifa Yamoah Ponko has alleged.

According to him, they have developed interest in the local politics and reneged on their duties pulling strings of Assembly members to reject nominees for MCE position.

“Civil servants together with some assembly members worked against my confirmation as MCE. Even civil servants are also doing politics at the assembly and cannot be trusted”.

The former MCE revelation comes at the time the President’s Akufo-Addo nominee for MCE position was rejected on suspicion that Municipal Co-coordinating Director and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency, Hon. Owusu Aduomi are working against the confirmation of Madam Serwaa Derchi.

The MP is alleged to has vowed to ensure the nominee will not get the required number of votes to become MCE despite her being a first Vice Chairperson of Ashanti Regional NPP.

Madam Derchi in an elections polled thirty out of sixty eight votes cast failing to get the members mandate to assume the reigns of office as new MCE for Ejuisu/Juaben.

Her supporters accused the MP and known NPP members at the Assembly of orchestrating the defeat calling on the President to revoke their appointment as government appointees.

Mr. Yamoah Ponko who shared his experience as former MCE appealed to members to save the Assembly from corrupt civil servants whose aim is to have total control of the Assembly’s funds.
