Workers chase Aggudey over debts

Fri, 17 Dec 2004 Source: Chronicle

Sunyani Workers of the GOCREST Security Limited, who were assigned to work at the Sunyani Branch of the Standard Chartered Bank, have appealed to the Sunyani High Court to expedite trial on a case brought against the company, owned by the CPP Presidential Candidate, Mr. George Aggudey, over non-payment of salaries, social security fund, PAYE tax to the Internal Revenue Service and their end of service benefits.

The workers lamented that the case, which was brought before the court since September 26, 2003, had been delayed and this, according to them, was causing them unbearable hardships.

According to their writ filed at the Sunyani High Court, since September 2001, the company had failed to pay their social security and income tax to the IRS.

The thirteen workers in their claim indicated that they were duly appointed by the GOCREST and signed on by the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Aguddey, but since the closure of the Sunyani Branch of the STANCHART, the company had failed to pay them their salaries.

The workers who gave their names as; Benson Osei Poku, Darko Danso, Richmond Afriyie, Maxwell Awekeya, Ibn Nuhu Mohammed, James Ofori Awuah, Dominic Gyamfi, Stephen Gyau, Ali Kwadwo, Mohammed Zakari, Joyce Essuman, Daniel Marfo, and Amoah Francis said they were assigned to perform various duties at STANCHART, Sunyani, ranging from security, messengers, cash boys, note checkers to drivers.

They continued that when the Sunyani Branch of the bank was closed down, Mr. Aggudey and his company never bothered to give them letters so that they may know their fate.

Since they filed the case to court, they had not heard from Mr. Aggudey either. They have expressed concern also over how the case had been adjourned any time they went to court.

According to them Aggudey himself had never appeared before the court, since the case was brought against him.
