Workers reassured of pension payments

Dunkwa-on-Offin, (C/R) July 12, GNA - Workers have been reassured that they would have no problems claiming their social security benefits in times of invalidity, retirement or death.

What is important is for workers to satisfy the necessary conditions that qualify them to make the claims.

The assurance was given by the Dunkwa District Manager of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr J. R. Langma, when he spoke on "The worker and SSNIT contributions" at a seminar organised by the district secretariat of the National Mobilisation Programme (NMP) at Dunkwa-on-Offin.

He told the over thirty participants drawn from the NMP, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), leaders of mobisquads and Civil Servants, that once all contributions were made and the necessary conditions were met, a contributor could claim his benefit after duly notifying the SSNIT.

Mr Langma stressed the need for workers to follow their contributions to SSNIT closely by periodically requesting for their up to date statement of accounts from the nearest SSNIT office.

The District Manager said a contributor could change his beneficiaries at any time that he so wishes from the nearest SSNIT office and advised workers to take advantage of the many opportunities created for them by the SSNIT.

The district liaison officer of the NMP, Supi John Baidoo, who spoke on "The role of NMP in the catchment area", said the NMP has educated workers and mobisquads in the district through seminars, symposia and workshops on their rights and responsibilities.

The seminar, he said, therefore, was one of such roles to create the opportunity for workers to know more about the advantages with the social security scheme.

The chairman for the occasion, Mr Kwesi Acheampong of the NADMO asked district and zonal officers of the various departments to educate their workers on the advantages and benefits of the social security scheme.
