Workers told to be nationalistic

Agona Swedru, Dec 5, GNA - The Deputy Central Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Serebour Quaicoe, has advised workers to desist from acts that undermine socio-economic growth of the country. He stated that unless they sacrifice and render selfless service to the nation, the people would continue to encounter hardship in their endeavours.

Speaking at a send-off organised by the Agona District Directorate of the EC in his honour, Mr Quaicoe urged the staff of the Commission especially the junior officers to obey their seniors to promote peace and cordial relations.

Mr Quaicoe who has been transferred to the Central Regional Office of EC in Cape Coast as Deputy Director said the only secret to success at work places was humility and respect. He stated that it was unfortunate that some heads of departments, agencies and ministries found it difficult to run an "open door" administration needed for national development. The Deputy Director asked them to think about the repercussion of their actions and to make transparency, probity and accountability to be their watchword.

He urged them to work hard and desist from litigation with senior officers to promote industrial harmony. Mr Quaicoe asked the staff and Returning Officers of the EC to extend the cooperation they gave him during his seven-year tenure to the new District Electoral Officer, Mr Kwame Amoah. Mr Nyamikeh Afful, Agona West Returning Officer, described Mr Quaicoe stay in the District as "very successful" and urged Mr Amoah to emulate his open door administration, which made the district "free from election violence".

He urged Mr Quaicoe to let his record reflect on the region with his elevation as Deputy Regional Director. Mr Enoch Duodu, secretary of the Agona East Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), praised him for introducing the Inter-party Advisory Committee meetings, which cleared doubts about the conduct and result of elections in the district. He said the Committee promoted good relations between the various political parties and expressed the hope that Mr Amoah would continue Mr Quaicoe's good work to ensure free and fair elections in the district.
