Workers urged to justify demand for higher wages

Akim Oda, April 20, GNA - The Eastern Regional Industrial Relation Officer of the Public Service Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Mr Richard Nii Aryertey, has urged workers to justify their demand for higher wages by maximizing their output.

He said much as the TUC would always ensure that conditions of workers were improved at the same time, it would not hesitate to advise workers to guard against acts that would tend to hinder productivity at their workplaces.

Mr Aryertey was addressing the first quarterly meeting of the Birim South District Council of Labour at Akim Oda on Tuesday, where a new seven-member executive was elected into office for a four-year term. The Officers include, Mr Courage Bonuedi, Chairman, Mr Benjamin Dankuah, First Vice Chairman, Ms Christine Okyere, Second Vice Person, Mr John Tetteh, Secretary, Mr Nathaniel Obese, Assistant Secretary, Mr Paul Otchere, Treasurer and Mr Akomea Siaw, Trustee.

Mr Aryertey advised workers to aim at improving their educational qualifications to enhance their marketability.

The Regional Industrial Relations Officer of the Timber and Wood Workers Union (TWU), Mr Nathaniel Mensah, appealed to workers to ensure that there was cordial relations between them and their management at all times.

He reminded them that it was only when there was industrial harmony that productivity would be increased.

Mr Mensah called on the newly elected executive to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them to make the Council stronger than they met it.
