Workshop for Police Personnel ends at Koforidua

Koforidua Oct. 24 GNA - A two-week capacity building course for 150 junior police officers ended in Koforidua on Friday. The course, which was attended by Constables, Lance Corporals and Corporals, took the participants through Community Policing to show that Modern Policing requires officers to form partnerships with the community, analyze their problems, respond to them and assess the action taken. The course also reminded participants on the need to protect rights of individuals and groups.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K. Gyamera-Yeboah, in his closing address, warned officers to guard against the indiscriminate arrest and detention of suspects and to avoid any inhuman and derogatory treatment of them. He expressed the hope that the participants would translate what they had learnt into their day-to-day activities to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

ACP Gyamera-Yeboah challenged the participants to reform their negative ways and demonstrate the change at their respective stations. He advised them to be courteous, fair and firm to be able to win public support, confidence and trust.

ACP Gyamera-Yeboah appealed to the participants to share the knowledge they had acquired with their colleagues to bring about a spread effect. He thanked the Inspector General of Police and the Police Administration for organizing the course and appealed for more of such courses to rekindle the morale of police personnel.
