Mayenda (C/R) Oct. 31, GNA -A three-day workshop on bee-keeping for 27 farmers from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the Mayenda area in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District of the Central Regional has ended at Mayenda near Awutu-Bawjiase on Saturday.
The workshop, organized by the Adventist Youth Industrial Programme of Mayenda GRATIS Foundation was aimed at equipping the participants with the knowledge of bee-keeping to help reduce poverty in the area. Closing the workshop, the Central Regional Manager of the Ghana Regional Appropriate Technology Industrial Service (GRATIS) Foundation, Mr. Thomas Dodoo noted that the nation could not achieve socio-economic development unless women are encouraged, motivated and recognized. "Women have potentials and are creative; it is in recognition of such traits that GRATIS Foundation seeks to make women equal partners in the national development process", hence women outnumbered their men counterpart at the workshop.
Mr. Dodoo expressed the hope that the knowledge the participants had acquired would help improve their living standards and appealed to the district assembly to give them financial assistance to enable them stay in business.
Mr. Ebenezer Yankson, Co-ordinator for the Adventist Youth Industrial Programme said that with the assistance of the Awutu Emasa Rural Bank, his outfit has started Kente production. Five beehives and honey harvesting equipment and certificates were given to the participants.
