Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A) Feb. 20, GNA- Mr. Bernard Acheampong, Coordinator of the National Immunization Programme (NIP) in Dormaa District in Brong Ahafo has said that Government is determined to fight Poliomyelitis through immunization programmes nationwide. The Coordinator was addressing a one-day training workshop organized by the District Directorate of Health Services for 31 supervisors and sub-district coordinators at Dormaa-Ahenkro. The workshop was aimed at equipping the participants with the skills and knowledge to fight against the disease.
Mr. Acheampong said the Ministry would organize series of immunization exercises against polio on February 27-29, March 27- 29 and between October and December this year.
Mr. Richard Amoah, Brong Ahafo Regional Disease Surveillance Officer said macro planning was very important in immunization and urged the participants to identify and adopt strategies to address peculiar problems in their areas.
He asked them to take into consideration the population of the various sub-districts in choosing their teams of personnel for the exercise.
Dr. Christian Nyarko Aduana, District Director of Health Services gave the assurance that the Ministry of Health would provide vaccines and other logistics for the exercise and appealed to the supervisors and volunteers to work harder for its success.
He called on the Dormaa District Assembly, Ghana Private Road Transport Union and other institutions in the District to provide vehicles to support the programme.
The District Director urged mothers to patronize the exercise.
