Nkoranza (B/A) Sept. 1, GNA - A five-day training workshop on bee-keeping organized by the Nkoranza District office of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) for about 40 bee-keepers in the district has ended at Nkoranza.

Participants were taken through topics including the economic importance of bees and bee-keeping, uses of honey and bee wax, hive management, procedure for harvesting honey and record keeping. Mr Kwame Amporfo-Twumasi, District Chief Executive, commended the participants for embracing the bee-keeping project to improve their socio-economic well-being.

He urged them to impart the knowledge and skills they had acquired at the workshop to other interested people to promote the production of honey to enhance the development of the district. The DCE asked them to check group hunters who had been identified as the originators of bushfires that destroyed beehives. Mr Amporfo-Twumasi urged them to form a task force out of the district beekeepers association to check bushfires and to ensure the arrest of perpetrators and their prosecution in court. He advised farmers to diversify their methods into other areas as grass-cutter rearing, bee keeping, snail and mushroom farming. Mr Kwame Sarfo of the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI) commended the farmers for forming the Association and urged them to register it to open more avenues for their projects.
