World Bank assists Assemblies

The World Bank in conjunction with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, had organized a workshop for 12 Municipal Assemblies in Accra.

The four-day workshop which was centered on Sanitation and Flood, was to mitigate the disastrous effects of Cholera and Flood-prone areas, which have been very prevalent during the rainy seasons within the Greater-Accra Region.

Madam Eva Schiffer, a facilitator from the World Bank group, took participants through formulating of pro-active good goals, or plans to guide the various Municipalities to be able to tackle problems seriously facing them.

Madam Schiffer noted that capacity building and execution should be completed within 100 days, beginning from Monday, June 22.

The Assemblies which have already formed their various teams numbering between 10 and 12 persons, with a Co-ordinator, would have to co-opt other officials to assist in the execution of the various goals prepared by an Assembly.

Some of the goals in Included: La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (laNMMA) which is tackling Cholera indicated that they will reduce number of Cholera cases among residents, within the municipality from 296 cases which occurred between June and September 2014 to not more than 30 cases by June September 2015 and prevent related deaths.

While Adenta Municipal Assembly (AdMA) will ensure that flood prone storm drains from "Nsuonano" to "Nanakrom" are obstruction free and that response time to reports of obstruction is no more than 2 days by September 30 2015.

The Workshop brought together Co-ordinating Directors, Municipal Chief Executives and Heads of Departments from the various assemblies within the Greater-Accra Region. Mr. Danny Manitsky who was a resource persons also reminded participants to work hard and accomplish their goals. .The project co-ordinator General was Mr. George Asiedu who made sure that everything worked very well during the workshop.
