World Bank donates books to schools in Upper West region

Wa, Jan. 4, GNA - The World Bank has donated assorted books estimated at 60 million cedis under its Book Project to some schools and institutions in the Wa Municipality and Wa East District. The beneficiary schools and institutions are; the Wa regional library and Wa Senior Secondary school in the Wa Municipality, Bulenga Primary, Junior Secondary and Chaggu Roman Catholic Primary schools in the Wa East district.

Mr Seidu Mohammed Sanni, Member of the Chakali Youth Association announced this when presenting some of the books to the Headmaster of Wa Senior Secondary School during a dinner dance of the Wa Senior Secondary School Old boys and girls association (WASSOSA) at Wa. He urged the beneficiary institutions to make maximum use of the books to benefit from the project in future.

Mr Moses Donneyong, Headmaster of Wa Senior Secondary School who received the books thanked the Bank for the gesture and promised to put the books into good use.

He said for the first time since the inception of the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE), the school last year scored 100 per cent with 86 out of the 276 students obtaining passing marks in eight subjects.

Mr Abudu Sakara, Secretary of WASSOSA said plans were far advanced to mobilize funds to undertake more projects in the school. He said the association had initiated the construction of a fence wall for school this year.

He appealed to members of the association to remain committed to supplement Government's efforts to upgrade the school. Mr Solomon Dansieh, President of WASSOSA said in addition to the dinner dance, the association would explore other avenues to generate income to support the school.

An appeal for funds yielded 23 million cedis.
