The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ghana (CILT) and the World Food Programme (WFP) Transport Training Centre project (TTC) have collaborated to deliver their first joint training programme in Accra, Ghana, targeting professionals in the transport sector.

The three-day joint training, organized by CILT Ghana and the TTC aimed to enhance the capacity of professionals and practitioners in the logistics and transport sector.

Speaking at the event, the President of the CILT Ghana, Engr. Mark Amoamah, FCILT noted that this collaboration would help promote policies and strategies in the humanitarian logistics and transport sector in the country.

“This collaboration would further our respective missions by establishing a new platform in areas of mutual interest, to support existing policies and strategies to enhance the capacity of supply chain, logistics and transport professionals equipping them with the skills to deliver life-saving goods such as food and medicine more efficiently throughout the region.

Indeed, the total fleet size of just three public sector institutions in Ghana is over 5,000 vehicles. These Institutions estimated running budget alone runs in several millions of cedis annually, covering operation and maintenance, transport logistics, human resources etc.

Neil Kwaku Vorleto, a trainer at the WFP’s Transport Training Centre in Accra, emphasized the importance of this collaboration with CILT and how such training programs will equip participants with essential knowledge in vehicle fleet management.

“CILT being a professional body in charge of transport, the collaboration with the Transport Training Centre of the World Food Programme is completely aligned with our respective mandates so that we can channel our efforts to providing key training to professionals in the transport and logistics sectors.

Ultimately, the participants would benefit from the private sector’s, the project partners, best practices and receive essential operational knowledge to be skilled fleet managers “he added.
