Accra, May 8 GNA - The Ghana Red Cross Society, in collaboration with Iran Clinic, a member of the Iranian Red Crescent, is offering free medical outreach programmes in selected communities and institutions as part of their contribution at alleviating the world's largest humanitarian crisis.

A statement in Accra signed by Ms. Mina Agyemang, Public Relation officer of the Ghana Red Cross Society said the programme forms part of activities marking this year's World Red Cross/Red Crescent day, which falls on May 8.

The World Red Cross/Red Crescent Day is celebrated across the globe on May 8, each year to highlight the contributions of volunteers and staff in saving lives and assisting vulnerable people around the world.

The date also marks the anniversary of the birth of Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross, as well as offers opportunities for members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movements to pay tribute to the tremendous, life-saving work that is carried out by its dedicated staff and volunteers worldwide each day. The theme for this year's event, "Together for Humanity" underscores the importance and power of partnerships by stressing the need for stronger local and global alliances to meet today's growing humanitarian challenges.

The statement said the federation comprised the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 185-member National Societies, as well as almost 100 million volunteers.
