Woyomegate: AFAG To Begin Consultations With The Police

Thu, 21 Jun 2012 Source: Daily Guide

Against the background of government’s blatant refusal to pay heed to our demands as stated in our June 12, 2012 press conference, the leadership of AFAG is by this open declaration,…

…assuring all the good people of Ghana that, the group is firmly resolute in pressing home for justice for the good people of this country in the matter relating Alfred Woyome and the State.

It would be recalled that in our press conference dated June 12, 2012 AFAG as a matter of public interest gave the Attorney General and by extension the Mills-Mahama government a 5 working day ultimatum to undertake the following;

• Arrest Dr. Kwabena Duffour

• Arrest Madam Betty Mould Iddrisu and

• Dismiss Ebow Barton Oduro or incur the wrath of Ghanaians.

It is however striking and worthy of note, that in a matter of such magnitude, the Mills-Mahama government has displayed utmost nonchalance, thus living up to its billing as a clueless government with respect to the fight against corruption. What they have succeeded in doing over the period is to indulge in name-calling and excoriate members of AFAG, for fulfilling their constitutional duty of demanding of the executive to be accountable to Ghanaians.

In light of the above, AFAG reiterates its earlier position to sustain sufficient pressure on government through series of demonstrations and civil actions to press home justice for the Ghanaian tax payer in the whole judgment debt saga.

To this end, AFAG will from today June 20, 2012 begin consultations with the Police and all relevant authorities as well as the various interest groups (i.e. Political Parties, Student Groups, Organized Labor, etc) in the country with the aim of joining forces to vehemently register our displeasure at governments’ official cover up and protection of some government apparatchiks who are embroiled in the Alfred Woyome saga.

Thank you.
