The Wuaku Commission inquiring into the Yendi crisis is to resume sitting at the GNAT Hall in Sunyani today, Wednesday, July 31.
The sittings were suspended following the sudden death of its counsel, Mr G.K. Owoo, on July 15. Mr Francis Opoku-Boateng, the Brong Ahafo Regional Co-ordinating Director, said in an interview that the date for the resumption of deliberations was contained in a fax message he received from the secretary to the commission. The fax message was, however, silent on who is taking over from Mr Owoo as the counsel for the commission. The commission, set up by President Kufour in the aftermath of the Yendi crisis that led to the murder of the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, and several of his elders and subjects, has been tasked to find out the perpetrators of the act.
The commission last sat on July 5 and would have resumed deliberations on July 15, but Mr Owoo’s death on July 12 led to the indefinite postponement of sittings. Mr Opoku-Boateng said the commission would have resumed sitting next Tuesday but had to reschedule it for the next day due to the district level election.
Members of the Andani and Abudu gates engaged in the dispute are expected in Sunyani next Tuesday from Yendi to testify before the commission. So far, 68 witnesses have appeared before the commission since it began work on July 4. It is not known the number of witnesses yet to appear before the commission, but a security source said in an interview just before the commission went on break on July 5 that at least a total of 100 witnesses are billed to testify before it.
