Yaa Asantewaa project underway

Accra - An international team of artists drawn from Africa, the Caribbean and Britain on Friday, August 4, held a press conference at the Du Bois Centre in Accra to explain the planned theatrical epic of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the legendary Asante Queenmother who stood up against British colonialism in the late 19th Century.

Accra - An international team of artists drawn from Africa, the Caribbean and Britain on Friday, August 4, held a press conference at the Du Bois Centre in Accra to explain the planned theatrical epic of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the legendary Asante Queenmother who stood up against British colonialism in the late 19th Century. Mr. Zagba Oyortey, the Executive Director of Adzido Pan African Dance Ensemble announced at the press conference that the project would be launched in May 2001. He said the main thrust of the project is to use art to tell the story that has not been told and also to correct the false impressions about ourselves.Mr. Zagba Yortey (inset) explaining as team members listen.
