‘Yabre’ demo gathers momentum in Kumasi

The upcoming demonstration, being spearheaded by Movement For Change (MFC) on February 24 in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, appears to be gathering momentum as more parties and organizations declare their intentions to join the march.

The latest group to join the fray is the Ashanti Regional branch of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), which has in a press statement signed by its Regional Secretary, Mr. Sam Pyne, declared its total support to the intended protest.

The opposition party has stated its readiness to participate in the march, which objective is to express the anger and frustration of residents in the region against the harsh economic conditions and the erratic power supply.

Dubbed Yabre Demo, to wit “We are tired”, the protest is expected to see thousands of residents throng the street with placards to send strong messages to the President Mahama-led administration about its performance and prevail upon the leadership of this country to sit up and find lasting solutions to the problem.

The NPP argued in its statement that the uncaring attitude of the NDC to the general economic hardships, coupled with the erratic power supply, which has led to the collapse of many industries and loss of jobs amongst the youth should be an issue of concern to each and every Ghanaian.

The party, therefore, said it was in full support of the leadership of the Movement For Change (MFC) that the protest was necessary since it would present an opportunity to Ghanaians and residents in the region in particular to express their concerns with a single voice.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the MFC, made up of the former Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, the assembly members for Dichemso Electoral Area, Kwabena Nsenkyire and Nana Boakye, have similarly issued a statement, calling on residents in the region to come out in their numbers on February 24, to join in the crusade to put pressure on the government to wake up from its slumber and resolve the myriad of problems confronting the country.
