Former President Rawlings together with some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) yesterday mercilessly beat up the District Chief Executive of Bongo in the Upper East Region, Mr Clement Atikiya.
According to information which filtered into the ?Daily Guide? offices late yesterday evening, Mr Atikiya was forcefully pulled out of his vehicle by Mr Rawlings himself after the supporters had smashed the windshield of the vehicle.
The former President and his supporters are said to have blocked the entrance to the residence of the DCE in an apparent ambush and as his vehicle approached they prevented him from entering the house. They were then holding a rally on the road leading to the DCE?s residence.
As soon as he got there, the paper learnt that he was pounced upon by the NDC supporters, who smashed his vehicle while the former President pulled him out where more blows landed on him.
At the time, according to its sources, the DCE was returning from a festival in a village called Bua within the district around 6.30 pm.
As at press time, the police were taking the statement of Mr Atikiya.
