Embattled Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah
Embattled National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has broken his silence following his suspension.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Joysports, Ampofo Ankrah said he remains calm despite being disappointed by the development.
“I'm very calm, but a bit disappointed. It is what it is, but I'm very calm and in all things give thanks,” he said.
He said he believes the situation will become clearer once the current noise surrounding the matter dies down.
“When the dust settles, when there's calm, when there's less noise or no noise, we would get to realise that this is the reality and not whatever is being put out there,” he added.
Ampofo Ankrah explained that he had spoken with Sports Minister Kofi Adams, who informed him about an investigation and the decision for him to temporarily step aside.
“He explained the situation to me with regard to an investigation. A lot is going on, which is fine. I welcome that. I think it's very important and I respect the decision to have an investigation and for the time being for me to step aside,” he continued.
He stressed that, based on his conversation with the minister, he had not been sacked.

“I've not been sacked. At least that's not what he told me,” he stated.
Ampofo Ankrah also expressed disappointment that he had not been allowed to present his side of the issues surrounding the allegations.
“I'm disappointed that I've not been heard. Obviously, I don't know exactly what the areas would be, but it is still disappointing that we haven't been able to discuss as to exactly what the whole space is,” he added.
He declined to comment in detail on allegations surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup and claims of money being exchanged in connection with visa facilitation.
According to him, he has been advised by his legal team not to make public comments that could prejudice any ongoing investigation.
“I've said, look, I can't be hopping from station to station answering things that are just being put out there. When I'm invited by the authorities that put me here and also by, of course, the law, then I would respect that.”
“I've been advised by my legal team not to say anything that would prejudice whatever is being investigated. So, I'm very calm. I'm very relaxed about the whole situation,” he concluded.
