Yeji Omanhene settles dispute at Atebubu

Sunyani, Jan 20, GNA - Nana Yaw Kagbrese 1V, Omanhene of the Yeji Traditional Area in Brong Ahafo, has settled a 17-year-old dispute between Nana Owusu Acheaw Brempong 11, Omanhene of the Atebubu Traditional Area and the Krontihene, Nana Kwaku Amofah. This was made known by Mr. Yaw Asamoah-Mensah, National President of the Atebubu Youth Association at a meeting of the Association in Sunyani on Friday.

He said both the Sunyani High Court and the Supreme Court failed to settle the dispute and the youth worried about the impasse sought the assistance of the Omanhene of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom, in 2001 to mediate, which did not yield any positive result.

Mr. Asamoah-Mensah said in 2004 the leadership of the Association again sought the intervention of Nana Kagbrese who made three efforts without achieving the desired result.

Mr. Asamoah-Mensah stated that as a peacemaker worried about the dispute, the fourth attempt by the Yeji Omanhene on January 14, this year, yielded a positive result leading to the smoking of the peace pipe.

Nana Brempong after the settlement invited Nana Amofah to join other sub-chiefs to his palace to plan the funeral arrangement for the late Akwamuhene of the area, Nana Yaw.

The youth leader said in line with custom, Nana Kwaku Agyei, Twafohene of Nana Amofah led other sub-chiefs of the Krontihene to present a carton of beer, two cartons of schnapps and sheep for rituals to cement the settlement.

Meanwhile, the Youth Association have commended Nana Brempong and Nana Amofah for the settlement, saying, it would enhance the development of the area.

Mr. Asamoah-Mensah noted that the pressing areas are education, health and roads and declared the commitment of the youth both at home and outside to support the chiefs and their elders to achieve the development goals of the people.
