'Yesterday was the 1st time I entered Kole-Bu’s Cardio Centre since I was sacked in 2011' – Prof Frimpong-Boateng

A Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has disclosed that he had not been to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, which he founded, for about 13 years.

Speaking in an interview on GTV on Thursday, June 13, 2024, Prof Frimpong-Boateng said that his visit to the Cardio Centre on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, for the 35th Anniversary of the Centre, where he was honoured with a bust, was the first time he had been there since he was dismissed in 2011.

The former minister mentioned that he was dismissed under bizarre circumstances and was warned never to step foot at the Centre.

He declined to provide details of the reasons given for his removal as the head of the Cardio Centre, citing a court action.

"Yesterday was the first time in 13 years that I entered the Cardio Centre since 2011. I've been to Korle-Bu, but not entered the Cardio Centre because I was given a letter to leave the Centre and more or less not step foot there.

"By the then Minister for Health... that for certain reasons, my appointment had been terminated and they wished me good luck in future... the reasons were very funny, but there are deep-seated reasons which I now don't want to talk about that because of there certain legal issues going on," he said.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng also expressed worry over the lack of expansion of the Centre.

However, he expressed confidence in the leadership of the Centre to bring in the needed changes so that it would be able to serve the needs of the country.

"We've lost a lot of ground. I mean, 35 years in that small space. We've lost a lot of ground and we need to catch up.

"I'm happy that the new management and the outgoing management are keen on doing that – establishing a National Cardiac Institute. And if they work hard, I think we'll achieve that," he said.
