According to the Accra-based FM station -JOYFM - an employee of the Ghana Water Company has been shot dead at Abirem Akyease near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Ibrahim Seidu, the Ashanti Regional Stock Manager of GWC, was killed around 10pm on Friday by unidentified gunmen.
Mohammed Salisu, a friend of the deceased told JoyFM that, the 50-year-old was returning from an official assignment in Accra when he met his untimely death in the hands of the unidentified gunmen.
The deceased was said to be almost home, driving on a road that led from a school to his house when the incident happened.
Salisu said a young man who was studying in the school at the time said he head someone call out Ibrahim, followed by the fatal gunshot.
Correspondents od the radio station who visited the scene of the shooting incident were told the deceased apparently drove through a blockade mounted on the road by his attackers, who opened fire on his car.
He was shot in the head through the side window.
The police at Mampongten who have taken charge of the case, have since conveyed the body to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The deceased was also a former assembly member for Ayigya Zongo in Kumasi from 1998 to 2006.
His luggage was said to be intact upon inspection, suggesting other motives than robbery could have accounted for the killing, adding to the growing number of unresolved murders in the country.
Meanwhile the former Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Commercial Bank, Rokko Frimpong, who was murdered in his house at Tema in broad day light has been burried on Saturday.
