The Concerned Youth of Yizesi has made a passionate appeal to the government to help put the teachers’ quarters in Yizesi in the Mamprugu Moaduri District of the North East Region in good shape.
The project started in 2002 by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) to house teachers who are posted to serve in the Yizesi community has been left to rot.
It had its roof ripped off by a heavy storm about seven years ago.
The lack of accommodation for teachers is making it difficult for teachers to accept posting to the area.
The few that accept posting also find it difficult living in the area due to lack of accommodation and water crisis.
These challenges force teachers to seek transfer from the area within few years of their stay in the community.
Following these disturbing developments going on the Yizesi community, the Concerned Youth of Yizesi is calling on government to help solve some of the challenges facing the community in order to ensure that the younger generation gets the best of tuition from professional teachers.
“As we complain of these dilapidated facilities, water crisis is also another challenge the Yizesi community has sleepless nights over,” the group stated.
The members revealed that there is a total of seventeen boreholes in the community, out of which ten are non-functional and the remaining seven serving a population of about 11,000 people.
Out of this number, World Vision Ghana, a nonprofit organization drilled ten to support the community have access to portable drinking water.
The youth revealed that the community has been detached from the district in terms of development despite the huge revenue contribution it makes into the district’s internally generated fund (IGF).
“We are unhappy with the way our community is denied our share of the internally generated fund (IGF) and Common Fund, whereas some communities in the district with less revenue contributions are being transformed whiles Yizesi suffers with challenges.”
They made a passionate appeal to the Member of Parliament, Rauf Tanko, the District Chief Executive, the Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party and other benevolent NGOs and philanthropists to come to the rescue of the community.
