Koforidua, March 16, GNA - President John Atta Mills on Tuesday reminded assembly members that they were the bedrock on which the "Better Ghan Agenda" by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government would be achieved.
In a speech read on his behalf by Mrs Victoria Addy, a member of the Council of State, during the inauguration of the New Juaben Municipal Assembly in Koforidua, he appealed to the assembly members to acquit themselves well in achieving the 93Better Ghana Agenda." He told the assembly members that their election and appointment was a mark of confidence their people had in them and were therefore expected to live up to expectation.
President Mills appealed to the members to relegate their personal parochial interests to the background and have regard to national interest and that of the people in their districts.
"Members are advised not to seek favours from Metropolitan, Municipal, District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and Management as this undermines your authority to demand accountability from management" he said.
Mr Alex Asamoah, the Municipal Chief Executive, reminded assembly members that they were to support the President to achieve the 91Better Ghana Agenda' in this action year.
"This calls for hard work, dedication, consensus building and cordiality in the course of your duties as assembly members" he said. The Assembly has 78 members, out of which 54 were elected and 24 were government appointees.
Mr Asamoah said out of the 54 elected members only eight retained their seats with the remaining 46 being newly elected members.
