The man who has declared his intention to run as independent presidential candidate in the 2020 presidential election, Mr Marricke Kofi Gane, has reacted to comments that have followed his declaration.

The candidate in a latest post on his official Facebook wall called of a debate of ideas instead of insults being thrown at him.

The insults he said will not distract him from contesting the race.

The last few days have been interesting. But if for nothing at all, it’s afforded me a clearer understanding on why our body politics hasn’t evolved much.

Those now being groomed to become future “career politicians” do not have a syllabus that includes work ethic exposure, or transferable corporate skills development. It’s all largely still basic – insult, make faulty comparisons, insinuations etc. So it’s almost as though the “fits and seizures” some are having is largely because the stakes are being raised on the quality of engagement – a quality they are not prepared for, used to, or that aligns with the way politics has always been done here.

But the wider response has also given me indications that MOST Ghanaians and even the media, DO want our body-politics to evolve. They want a disruption that takes us higher. Better conversations, better challenges etc and that hopefully it all culminates into a country that moves forward faster.

Progress must win.
