Prof Justice Bawole, Dean of the University of Ghana Business School
Professor Justice Nyigmah Bawole, Dean of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), has called for radical moral reforms to tackle systemic corruption and enhance public administration in Ghana.
Delivering his inaugural lecture on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, Prof. Bawole described corruption as a persistent challenge that undermines public trust and weakens institutions.
He stressed the need for a cultural shift that promotes and rewards integrity, alongside continuous civic education.
“It is possible to live right and survive in public service without being corrupt. Without a consistent moral foundation, punishing offenders becomes nothing more than a firefighting effort,” he stated.
“True change must be rooted in a shared societal morality that drives sustainable development,” Prof. Bawole was quoted as saying in a report by CitiNewsroom.
He argued that Ghana’s "wicked problems" largely stem from a flawed public administration system, asserting that morally upright individuals and institutions are just as crucial to national development as sound policies.
