Inter-party Resistance Against New Voters Register (IPRAN) has threatened to occupy the Electoral Commission (EC) if they ignore calls to abort the compilation of a new voters register.

According to them, the current register is still credible because it has been able to produce free and fair elections during the 2012 and 2016 elections.

In an interview with GhanaWeb, National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Akamba stated that many of the demonstrators are unemployed waiting for the comeback of the NDC to create jobs for them so they can heave a sigh of relief.

He averred that the members of the Inter-party Resistance Against New Voters Register (IPRAN) getting ready to employ themselves at various EC offices across the country is one of the surprises planned for the Jean Mensa led EC if they ignore them and go ahead to compile a new voters’ register.

Making this statement at the “W)kpp3n33” demonstration held in Accra Wednesday, February 5, 2020, he highlighted that “Today, we are doing two things, first, after this we’ll submit a petition to the presidency and the other one to the EC itself. But then I can assure you that after this if the EC does not listen to us, they will employ us by force. We’ll work them throughout the year, we will work with them without pay.”

He stressed that “the EC will get a surprise because whatever she’s been asked to do, whatever her pay masters have asked her to do, we will surprise her. That surprise will be constitutional and lawful.”

The “W)kpp3n33” demonstration follows two others that took place in Tamale and Kumasi against the EC by the Inter-Party Resistance against New Voters Register.

The reason for demonstrating is to inform the EC to refrain from its decision to compile a new register for the December 7, 2020 polls.
