The incumbent Member of Parliament for Manso Adubia constituency, Mr. Yaw Fimpong Addo has suggested the decision of his only contender in the upcoming parliamentary primaries, Kofi Osei-Afoakwa could be of selfish motive.
The MP speaking on his chances and whether he was scared of any threats ahead said the former constituency chair who resigned to contest him, may not have any positive mindset for contesting him.
The legislator said his contender lacks understanding of parliamentary work hence goes round promising development when it is not the duty of an MP.
He has, therefore, advised him to focus his attention at the District Assembly and fight for the position as DCE if he wants to lead the development agenda.
Mr. Frimpong Addo in an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm stressed ”if you are promising development then your place is not parliament. Parliament is a place for lawmakers. If you are lucky and lobby for a project, you send it to the assembly and so, candidates who promise development when contesting as MPs are jokers.”
"It is a figment of your own imagination if you promise constituents to build them clinics, roads and other projects when contesting as an MP. That is not your job. The district executive projects even if you are the one who lobbied for them,” he added.
Party delegates he said are now wiser than before and will not accept just promises.
The MP disclosed he would have happier if he had gone unopposed since it would have cut down his cost.
"If he had expressed interest in contesting me, I would have relaxed and invested the resources in other activities. But now there is a competition and I have to live with it.”
The NPP will go to the polls on June 20, 2020, to elect parliamentary candidates.
The primaries are expected to be held at the electoral areas and not the previous format whereby all the delegates met to vote at one place.
The statement also confirmed that President Akufo-Addo has been accepted as the flagbearer of the party for the 2020 presidential election.
