Kenyasi (B/A) March 24, GNA- Two hundred and forty young entrepreneurs have participated in separate client information forums in four communities in the Asutifi district as part of a programme under the second phase of the Rural Enterprise Project (REP).

The programme was organized by the Kenyasi Business Advisory Centre (BAC) at Kenyasi, Hwidiem, Acherensua and Wamahinso, and was aimed at exposing existing and potential small-scale entrepreneurs to the REP. Highlights at the forum included how to start a business, identify entrepreneurial skills in the micro-small scale sector and motivate potential entrepreneurs to become self-employed.

Addressing the first forum at Kenyasi, Mr Michael Nsiah-Agyapong, District Chief Executive, said the government placed premium on individual initiative and the adoption of pragmatic strategies not only to revamp Ghana's ailing economy "but also to place the destiny of the individual in his or her own hands".

Mr. Nsiah-Agyapong urged the participants to take a cue from President Kufuor's Special Initiatives to set the tone for self-sufficiency and micro-economic growth.

Mr. Kwasi Abayie Acheampong, Head of the Kenyasi BAC, announced that the REP phase two would address concerns of a variety of target groups including the unemployed, graduate apprentices, and the vulnerable - widows, divorcees and unmarried.

He noted that about 90 percent of all small-scale industries were scattered in the rural areas and needed the maximum push to enable them to contribute significantly towards the socio-economic advancement of the country.
