Cape Coast, Aug. 3, GNA - A 19 year-old farmer, who lured a 13 year-old girl into his room under the pretext of giving her some cassava for her mother, was on Friday jailed 15 years by a circuit court in Cape Coast.

Nana Baasah pleaded guilty to defilement and was sentenced on his own plea.

Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court presided over by Mr Asiedu Badu that both the accused and the victim lived in the same area at Aburansa near Komenda and that on July 12, around 17:00 hrs, the accused sent for the victim and her younger brother accompanied her.

He said when Baasah saw that the victim's brother was with her, he intentionally sent him to go back to their house to fetch a bucket for him and that while the boy had gone, Baasah asked the girl to go into his room with him to collect some cassava for her mother.

Mr Amonoo said Bassah locked the door as soon as they entered and forcibly had sex with the girl, after turning on his radio cassette loud to muffle her cries for help.

The prosecution said the girl's mother later traced her to Baasah's room where she was crying after her son informed her about the victim's whereabouts.

A report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and following a medical report, which indicated that the girl had been defiled, Baasah was charged, the prosecution added. 3 Aug. 07
