Young lady arrested for attempting to register twice

Koforidua, June 18, GNA - A young lady who attempted to register twice was arrested while two others in the queue took to their heels at the Nurses Training School Registration Centre in the New Juaben Municipality. This was disclosed by the Registration Officer of the Centre, Ms Martina Wilkinson, when the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Ahmed Baba-Jamal, toured registration centres in the New Juaben Municipality on Friday.

Ms Lydia Agyiri, the New Juaben Electoral Officer, who was among the Deputy Minister's entourage, confirmed the story and said the suspect had been handed over to the police for further investigations but did not disclosed her name. Ms Wilkinson said the centre had so far registered 326 new voters and there were a lot of students and some young people in the queue at the time of the visit. Mr Baba Jamal was accompanied by the Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Paul Boateng.

They visited registration centres including Koforidua Secondary Technical Polling Station Registration Centre, which had registered 501 new voters. and Adaneagya Methodist JSS Registration Centre at Oyoko, which had registered 97 voters. Effiduase Methodist JSS Registration Centre, which had registered 140 voters and Jumapo Anglican Primary School Registration Centre, which had registered 109 voters were also visited. At all the registration centres there were observers from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP). It was only at the Suhyen Methodist Primary School and the Asokore Sukuumu Methodist Primary School Registration Centres that the registration officers complained of shortage of lamination cards which were immediately supplied Mr Boateng.

At the end of the tour, Mr Baba-Jamal expressed his satisfaction with the process and advised those who had misplaced their voters' identity cards to get in touch with the electoral offices for help. The New Juaben Municipality has a total of 48 registration centres. 18 June 10
