A former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Dr Kwaku Ansa-Asare, has slammed the former CJ Gertrude Torkornoo following her recent judicial review application, seeking the court to stop the appointment of Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the new Chief Justice of Ghana.
In an interview with JoyNews, and monitored by GhanaWeb on October 17, 2025, Kwaku Ansa-Asare noted that the former CJ's actions indicate that she was not ready to occupy the position as the country's Chief Justice.
He explained that Getrude Torkornoo's actions show that she lacked the maturity to occupy the CJ position, adding that her judicial review application has no legal standing.

"A former Chief Justice must understand that she is bound by the constitution. If she does not appreciate the CJ removal process and respect it, she is demonstrating that when she was appointed, she was immature," he said.
Dr Kwaku Ansa-Asare additionally noted that the sacked former Chief Justice should back off from her recent action.
According to him, Torkornoo's attempt to bring back her sacked case would amount to nothing.
"Because she was immature, she is suffering all these things. She has to stop. The grounds are frivolous; the entire acting is vexatious and frivolous... She cannot resurrect the case," he added.
Background
On October 16, 2025, the former Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkornoo, filed a judicial review application seeking to stop the possible consideration and appointment of Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the new Chief Justice of Ghana.
According to a report filed through her lawyer, Kwabena Adu-Kusi, she submitted two reports to support her legal challenge.
One of the reports, it said, is from a committee chaired by Justice Dr Owusu-Dapa and the other from the National Signals Bureau.
Both reports identify Francis Baiden, a Judicial Service staff member in charge of the e-Justice system, as the prime suspect in the tampering of judicial document.

Torkornoo argues it is illogical to remove her from office for transferring Baiden after evidence showed he was involved in tampering with documents in the Gyakye Quayson case.
She therefore seeks to quash the proceedings of the Justice Pwamang-led committee, including its reasons and recommendations for her removal from office, as well as all other procedures and processes related to her dismissal as Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana.
