'Your mentor is not your financier' - Petra Asamoah schools women

Sales and Marketing Head at Akosombo Industrial Co. Ltd, Petra Asamoah, has advised women against the over dependence on mentors for financial help.

She explained that a mentorship is not centered on money adding that a mentor is one who assists not just emotionally but professionally to grow into the person the individual envisions.

“Your mentor is not your financier. Your mentor is supposed to help you fish not just keep giving you fish.” Petra Asamoah reiterated.

She added that the notion poses as a challenge because “we typically feel that the number one way people can give us help is by giving us money.”

To Petra Asamoah, rather than regard mentors as a ‘financial hub’, women who seek to learn and be like or better than the people they look up to must focus on using the times spent with coaches to acquire more knowledge to harness their skills.

According to the author, a mentee must first find what they are passionate about, find a mentor and then polish through experiences and guidance of mentors.

Petra Asamoah was speaking at the maiden edition of the Obaasima Summit held on May 31 in Accra on the theme “Empowered for Continuity” to empower, equip, and promote women to pursue their dreams.
