The National Youth Authority is seething with anger over a snub it says was handed by the Ministry of Education regarding the 2014 Conference on Bridging the Gap between Education/Training and Industry.

The Conference began on Monday, May 19, and it is scheduled to end on Tuesday, May 20.

Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Tuesday, Ras Mubarak, the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Authority said: "It is unfortunate that the Ministry of Education did not invite the National Youth Authority for this exercise”.

He insinuated that the Authority would have made valuable inputs in discussions at the Conference.

The Conference is being organized on the theme: “Achieving Strong Partnership between Education/Training and Industry: The Way Forward”.

Mr. Mubarak suggested that the worrying gulf between graduates churned out and what industry wants is because more young people are graduating from colleges than in the past.

The situation, he added, is being compounded by few workers proceeding on retirement.

The Conference was opened on Monday by President John Dramani Mahama, who demanded from industry the skills set they require in order to influence the country’s educational institutions in aligning “their curricula to suit this demand”.
