The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim has appealed to the youth to avoid being used as tools to foment trouble during and after the December general elections.

He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of Prof. J. E. A. Mills is very much committed to sustaining peace and democracy in the country.

Nii Ephraim was addressing a parade of school children and voluntary organisations in Winneba, to mark Ghana’s 55th Independence Anniversary celebration.

The MCE said the government is also committed to good governance and that the Municipal Assembly and the government has expanded and introduced new policies and programmes that will better the lot of Ghanaians, he said.

He mentioned some of the policies as the expansion of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, adding that, the Methodist A,B,C and D KG and primary schools at Ndaamba/Abowee have been included in the programme.

The MCE said five 6 Unit classroom blocks have been completed since 2009 and that nine more 6 Units classroom blocks have reached various stages of completion.

“The Assembly does not only construct the school blocks but also furnishes the classrooms with desk and tables for the pupils”.

Nii Ephrain said the Assembly is also in the process of constructing three ICT Centres to serve schools in the community.

He said the Assembly is providing all these facilities and interventions with the primary objective of making education more accessible and affordable to all children of school-going age.

The MCE entreated parents and guardians to take advantage of all these opportunities and send their children to school since the country’s future depends on them.

S. H Amissah Senior High Schools was adjudged the best school in the march past in the SHS level, whilst Anglican JHS placed first in the Junior high school level.
