The Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II has urged the government to prioritise the employment of Ga youth in the operation of the Jamestown Fishing Harbour.
Speaking at the commissioning of the ultramodern harbour on September 13, 2024, he emphasised the need for government to ensure that the youth from the Ga community benefit from the project as their heritage is linked to the fishing industry.
He further appealed to the Ministry of Transport to allocate an employment quota for the youth.
“I stand also as the voice of the Ga Dangbe Youth, whose heritage is rooted in this land waters. I appeal to the Ministry of Transportation to ensure that a quota is allocated for the benefit of our young people. They must not be observers of this commercial venture and major transformation. They deserve a seat at the table to benefit and to thrive,” he stated.
The harbour was which was constructed by the CRCC Harbour and Channel Engineering Bureau Group Co. Ltd. under the China Aid to Ghana Fishing Port Complex Project, is expected to transform the livelihoods of the local fishing community in Accra and enhance the country’s fishing operations.
