Nkwankwaanua (Ash), July. 13, GNA - Mr Kwame Asamoah-Dwomoh, Sekyere East District Director of the Department of Community Development, has advised the youth in the area to take advantage of the inclusion of the district in the pilot phase of the President's Special Initiative (PSI) on Cassava to improve their lot.

He said the implementation of the PSI should motivate them to go into large-scale cassava production to earn sustainable income. Mr Asamoah-Dwomoh was addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Nkwankwaanua near Effiduase at the weekend, to discuss ways of accelerating the pace of development of the community.

He noted that the PSI could provide solutions to the high-level unemployment and dependency on the part of the out-of-school young men and women.

He appealed to the chiefs and landowners to ensure that they made land readily available to those who were eager to enter into farming. Mr Asamoah-Dwomoh also spoke of the need for parents in the community to give serious attention to the education of their children, saying, that was the best form of investment they could think for their future security.

Nana Kwame Kobi, chief of the town, lauded the Kufuor administration for selecting the district for the PSI and said he had no doubt that the initiative would help end the migration of the youth to urban areas in search of non-existing jobs.

The assembly member, Mr Kyei Addai, announced that the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mrs Grace Coleman, had made available 50 bags of cement in support of the construction of nurses' quarters to house nurses posted to the clinic that had been built for the community by the District Assembly.
