Mobile operator Zain Ghana launched 3 new products: “free night calls”, “payback” and “Friends and Family”. Free night on-net calls are available between midnight and 5am for customers spending at least GHS0.15 (US$0.10) before midnight. For payback, customers receive 10% of the value of all calls received from a Zain line and 3% for calls received from another network. The bonus can then be spent on on-net calls and is valid for 7 days. Lastly, subscribers get 46% discount on call charges and 50% on SMS tariffs for calls and SMS made and sent to 5 friends and family numbers. On the data side, Zain introduced a GHS60 Internet bundle including a 3G/HSPA USB dongle and 4GB worth of data. According to Informa Telecoms & Media, Zain had 1.4 million subscriptions in 1Q10, 4% of them on its 3G network.
