Zongo NDC caucus cautions leadership against complacency

Kumasi, Sept 25, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Branch of the Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday cautioned the party hierarchy against complacency just because they have managed to win two bye-elections in a year.

The Caucus said instead of using the winning of the bye-elections as a platform for introducing divide and rule tactics into the party, the leaders should rather unite and venture into more active campaigns to help win 2008 general elections.

This was contained in a statement issued in Kumasi and signed jointly by Alhaji Othman Yahya, Chairman, Alhaji Salu Ibrahim, Vice Chairman and Alhaji Alhassan Ibn Ibrahim, Secretary of the Caucus. The statement said such unhealthy development that had characterised the leadership of the NDC in recent times does not augur well for the party, and therefore called for "a halt and cease-fire from all factions".

The Zongo Caucus made it clear that the NDC was supreme and higher than any individual in the party.

"We therefore do not see why the senior members of our party should choose the path of subjecting our dear party to embarrassment". The statement said should they not unite immediately and smoke the peace pipe, they the leaders could be working the party to its doom in the coming general election.

The Zongo Caucus said posterity would not forgive the senior members if, through their deliberate acts, the party fails to gain power in 2008.
