As part of efforts to consolidate the victory of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and sustain the momentum in the party, a group calling itself Zongo for Mahama would embark on a nationwide tour to achieve the above objective.
According to the founder of ZfM, Alhaji Sofo Jaja, the nationwide tour will afford the group the opportunity to explain government policies, educate and inform their target group, which is the Zongo communities, on the success stories of the Mahama-led administration, and what is in the pipeline for the development of all Zongo communities.
He said the NDC won almost all the zongo votes due to the hard work the group injected in ensuring the retention of President Mahama and the NDC in the 2012 general elections.
"We must continue to work to keep the enthusiasm of party faithful and safeguard the victory to ensure we win even more sits in the 2016 elections. It is our sacred duty to guarantee a second term for President John Mahama and the NDC," he said.
I am confident the NDC will deliver on its promises and ensure the manifesto promises are realized. In as much as zongo communities are solidly behind the NDC and the president, we will also work to make life bearable for them.
Meanwhile, the group has started a series of 'thank you' tours to celebrate the outcome of the supreme court verdict, which saw President Mahama declared the validly elected president of the 2012 presidential elections.
On whether or not the group is worried of a possible Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia ticket in the 2016 presidential elections, Alhaji Sofo Jaja stated that: "if the NPP brought Nana and Bawumia 200 times, the NDC and John Mahama will win 300 times".
"We are going to work to improve lives, change destinies, transform the country, build solid infrastructure, job creation; and run an open and honest administration, and to build a strong and robust economy," Sofo Jaja said.
Corroborating the founder’s stance, the life patron of the ZfM, H.E Alhaji Sinare, stated the ZfM has come to stay and all efforts will be put into ensuring a sound victory for the NDC and candidate John Dramani Mahama in the 2016 general elections.
"We are focused and determined to guarantee the maximization of votes for the party and our president in the next elections,’’ he said.
Alhaji Said Sinare, Ghana’s ambassador to Egypt, a vice chairman of the ruling party, and one time Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso central constituency, was of the view that, the NPP was doomed and would not come to power anytime soon.
"They (NPP) have a lot of work to deal with within their party, and thus not ready for 2016. We are working for the people and with unity of purpose the ZfM believes the NDC is moving from victory unto victory."
