Zoomlion Ghana, a waste management firm, on Wednesday presented 10 skip trucks for all nine districts and municipalities in the Upper East Region to aid the assemblies manage their waste.
The skip trucks, which are structured purposely for waste collection, have come at an appropriate time when most of the assemblies in the region lack the capacity to manage their waste.
At a presentation ceremony at the Regional Coordinating Council, an official of Zoomlion Ghana in the Upper East Region, Mr Issaka Abubakar, said the donation of the trucks was part of his outfit’s plans to assist assemblies throughout the country to manage their waste.
He said having supported the assemblies in various ways in the past to manage their waste, Zoomlion Ghana understood the needs of the assemblies and expressed the hope that the assemblies would adhere strictly to the professional advice given them.
Mr Abubakar said the assemblies had over-relaxed in enforcing their by-laws on sanitation in the region and suggested that they could revamp their sanitation courts and empower their Environmental Officers to enforce sanitation laws.
The Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Mrs Lucy Awuni who took delivery of the trucks, said the skips would help in ensuring proper waste management practices in the region.
She appealed to the management of Zoomlion Ghana to consider increasing the number of bins to cater for the rubbish generated by members of the public.**
