The exercise which was organized to commemorate the 10th year anniversary celebration of Zoomlion and also mark the National Sanitation Day (NSD), witnessed over hundreds staffs of the company sweeping public places, picking plastic rubbers, de-silting drains, fumigating water bodies among others.

He hinted that, Zoomlion is 10 years old and as part of activities outlined for the anniversary celebration, the Central regional branch of the company has engaged in massive public education programs to induce good sanitary practices among the public and has also engaged in sanitation quiz for the “Zoomkidz” clubs in the various schools in the region.

He added that, the company is keen on ensuring that the younger ones are well educated on good sanitary practices hence the formation of “Zoomkidz” clubs in the various basic schools to make them good ambassadors who will ensure that our communities are kept clean.

Mr. Osei however lamented at the apathy demonstrated by the public towards the National Sanitation Day, adding that keeping our environment clean is a shared responsibility and that every citizen should turn-up in their numbers to partake in the National Sanitation Day.

He urged the various municipal and district assemblies in the region to enforce the sanitation bye-laws by meting out stiffer punishment to sanitation offenders.

The Head of Environmental Health and Sanitation unit of the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly, Mr. Paul Nutsugah who was also present to engage in the exercise commended Zoomlion’s efforts over the years in ensuring that our environment is kept clean.

He noted that, bad attitudes by Ghanaians has been the major cause of indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains and open defecation among other bad sanitary behaviors.

He added that, the increasing rise in population coupled with improper planning in Kasoa and its environs has been a major challenge since it also hinders the effective collection of waste.

He hinted that, the Assembly is making all efforts to ensure that bye-laws are enforced to punish those who engage in bad sanitary activities and urged the public to do the right thing.

He disclosed that, the Municipal Assembly is in the process of constructing a landfill site on the Cape coast road to relief off the pressure on the existing Landfill site in the country and also ensure that waste management companies have places of convenient to dump the waste they collect from the various homes.
