ZOOMLION Ghana Limited in the Jaman South Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region has raised awareness on indiscriminate dumping of waste in the community.
The supervisor for Zoomlion Ghana Limited at Jaman South, Maxwell Appiah Kubi, stated that there was rampant disposal of waste in the municipality by the community members, even though there were waste bins available.
He said: “This behaviour is due to parents who send their wards to dispose of waste into bins that are far beyond the height of the children; hence they end up pouring the waste on the ground”.
He indicated that as part of the company’s initiatives to combat sanitation problems in the municipality, a taskforce has been inaugurated to go round and supervise the situation. Members of the taskforce would arrest all defaulters who go against the rules of sanitation, saying it would reduce government expenditure in terms of spending huge sums of money to evacuate waste dumped indiscriminately in the area.
He pleaded with parents in the area to adhere to sanitation guidelines. “I plead with parents in the Jaman South Municipality to educate their children on how to properly dispose of refuse into bins because any parent whose child is arrested will face the law in court,” he added.
