Zoomlion, a leading waste management company in the country, has handed over six waste management trucks to six Municipal and District Assemblies in the Northern Region to help improve sanitation.
The beneficiary Assemblies were; Saboba, Zabzugu, Mion, Nanumba South, Yendi and Gusheigu.
Mr Edmond Kweku Vidjah, Zoomlion General Manager for the Eastern Corridor Zone of the Northern Region, who presented the trucks to the six Assemblies at Yendi, said they formed part of the on-going nationwide Sanitation Improvement Package (SIP).
Mr Vidjah said under the SIP, the company provided logistics including; the waste management trucks and communal waste containers to augment existing logistics to enhance effective and efficient service delivery across the nation.
He appealed to the beneficiary Assemblies to put the trucks to the right use emphasising that under no circumstance should any of the trucks be found idling while waste continued to pile in any of the Assemblies.
He pointed out the attitude of the people towards good sanitation practices was the biggest challenge in the area.
Mr Vidjah called for the enactment and enforcement of sanitation by-laws by the Assemblies pledging the company’s preparedness to continue with its public sensitisation drive to ensure positive attitudinal change towards sanitation.
He announced that the company would soon be distributing dustbins to households to aid in appropriate household waste management practices.
Mr Mohammed Hashim Abdallah, Mion District Chief Executive (DCE) lauded the good collaboration between Zoomlion and the Assemblies in the area of sanitation assuring that the trucks would be put to effective use for improved sanitation.
Alhaji Hammed Yussuf, Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, who was happy to receive the truck by himself, commended the company for the gesture pledging to play effective supervisory role to ensure the Assembly benefited fully from the services of the truck.
