Accra, June 12, GNA.- The Teachers And Educational Workers' Union (TEWU) Industrial action which appeared to be a domestic issue is gaining international dimension and it is feared that if prompt action is not taken to solve the issue it may affect the country's image, leadership of the Union has said.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra on Monday, Mr Daniel Ayim Antwi, General Secretary of TEWU said, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA) and Embassies of some industrialised countries had called to enquire about the industrial action.
He said TEWU had written to the National Labour Commission (NLC) to complain about the inability of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to secure mandate from Government to continue negotiation on a collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
The Agreement expired in December 2004 and efforts to continue the negotiations had stalled.
Mr Antwi said TEWU would review its industrial action immediately the GES Management obtains the mandate and resumes negotiation with the Union.
