Accra, June 19, GNA - Ghana on Monday reaffirmed support for China's cause of peaceful national reunification through the adherence to the "One China policy."
A Communique issued at the end of the two-day official visit to the country by the Chinese Premier, Mr. Jiabao Wen said Ghana's position was in recognition that Taiwan was an inalienable part of China's territory.
It said the two countries pledged to support each other on matters concerning sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Additionally they agreed to work together to tap the potential in their economic and trade relations and to set up co-operation in infrastructure, construction, telecommunications and human resource development.
In line with this, the two Governments would encourage their companies to expand business ties and cooperation to create favourable conditions for boosting bilateral trade and investment. The Communique said China promised to provide assistance to Ghana to the best of its ability and to contribute to its economic and social development.
China is also ready to continue discussions on the Bui Dam Project and find a way that would be acceptable to both sides on a win-win basis.
The two countries further agreed to enhance exchange and co-operation in health, education and tourism. In this direction the Chinese would dispatch medical teams to Ghana to work with their Ghanaian counterparts in the prevention and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases.
On the international arena, they decided to strengthen their co-operation through consultation on major international issues like poverty reduction, debt relief, reform of the United Nations, human rights and counter-terrorism so as to jointly safeguard the rights and interests of developing countries and to promote world peace and development.
They also committed themselves to the building of a new strategic partnership between China and Africa based on the principles on political equality, mutual trust, economic co-operation and cultural exchange.
The Communiqu=E9 said President John Agyekum Kufuor and the Chinese Premier, Mr Wen, expressed satisfaction with the steady growth of China-Ghana relations and cooperation in recent years and pledged to strengthen the high-level contact and friendly exchange to the mutual benefits of their countries.
