TEWU calls off industrial action

Accra, July 27, GNA - The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday called on striking members working in the polytechnics to resume work. A press release from TEWU said the call off was due to the progress made at a meeting held with the Conference of Polytechnic Principals (COPP) on the deferred proposals for the review of unified conditions of service for them.

Mr Dan Ayim, General Secretary of TEWU and Madam Esther Smith, Chairman, Central Executive Committee of the Polytechnic Union signed the release.

The release thanked the rank and file of the Union for "their forbearance and solidarity".

It said the COPP would convene a meeting of the Standing Joint Negotiating Committee within two weeks to conclude negotiation on the deferred proposals.

The members embarked on industrial action in May this year to back demands for a Government mandate to enable it to continue negotiations on deferred proposals for the review of their "unified conditions of service".
